Description

New for Ask anyone what the hottest ASA slow pitch softball bat is, and you'll get one answer time and time again: The Easton Salvo. This season, the Salvo returns in a number of different forms to meet the needs and preferences of just about any player. The Easton Salvo Comp 98 features a similar design to the original Salvo SRV5. The one-piece IMX Composite construction of the Salvo allows for an optimized sweet spot and extraordinary performance. The 12 inch endloaded IMX barrel seamlessly transitions into the Carbon Nanotube (CNT) handle that effectively acts as a backbone for the Salvo, increasing its durability. The Single System Composite Design gives the player more control over their bat by creating a stiffer one-piece feel. The ultra thin 29/32 inch CNT handle is wrapped with a new Performance Diamond Grip that provides the tack and control needed to start blasting homers every time up. Maybe the most impressive thing about the Salvo is that you can start consistently hitting balls over the fence for under $200! Easton: Know-Feel-Be The Difference! The Easton Salvo Comp 98 is approved for play in ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA, and ISF. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive 400 Day Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Bat has great pop and sound right out of the wrapper. I'm a power hitter and had warning track power on the first hit with this baby. Can't wait for that true broken in feeling. Also, bat has great speed with the slight end load and you cant beat the price for what you get!

Cons: None.

Pros: Great looking bat, feels good through the swing, just not feeling the pop out of the wrapper that everyone is talking about. First generation Salvo was hot right away. Hopefully this one gets hotter after more cuts. I'm not giving up yet!

Pros: The new Salvo has the same "pop" if not more that the 2011 model. I only have around 50 swings on it but I can feel the bat flexing during hits already. Due to the end loaded feel, the bat moves through the zone smooth and fast. Big sweet spot and plenty of pop for a home run hitter. Love this bat so far and its not even broke in.

Cons: The whole team wants to swing it.

Pros: Booyah! I had the 2012 Salvo for 2 months and broke the end cap.(back order) They sent me this 2013 and words can't explain. 5'11" 165lbs 26oz first at bat 315 over the fence, 2nd at bat hit the fence on the fly line drive. the problem is keeping it in the park do to the 1 up rule in my league.

Pros: Nice pop after 100 hits, and gets better from there (about 120 on mine). Decent out of the wrapper, but not great. Improves your style: Good for HRs or solid liners. Slight end load helps get a good whip on a swing. A very good bat for the price!

Cons: Grip isn't great. The weight leans on the heavy side (28 oz is actually 28.5 oz), and feels heavy. A friend has a 3 year old Stealth, and, IMO, the Salvo isn't there, both feel and performance wise.

Pros: I love this bat. I have been swinging an old PST for about 6-7 years, dented but loved. I saw other teams using these composites and thought I would try. Love it, definitely more distance. Great feel. Great bat for any price. I paid $350 for my last bat, this is a better bat.

Cons: For those with marginal power, it might cause you to swing for the fence. Saw a lot of shoulder dipping this week. I like the old leather handles better than these rubber ones. Most of the team wants to use it.

Pros: I've got 150-200 hits on this so far and it's still opening up. It's definitely nice NOW, but gets significantly better. Even the .52/275 mush balls we use are jumping off this. I generally shoot for hard line drives and have average or slightly better power and this bat is a perfect fit for that approach. You'd be very hard pressed to find a better bat at a better price. I definitely recommend picking this up.

Cons: First thing I noticed was the grip was very slick. So, it's definitely difficult to control the bat when you're hands are sweating. I ended up scuffing up the grip with some steel wool. Since then, the grip has been fine. Another minor issue is the placement of the stamps. They're at the top of the bat and they're already beginning to be obscured by nicks and scratches. Which leads me to... This thing is delicate. I've already found a couple sizable gouges in the shell from rocks, and I'm generally pretty careful with my bats. They haven't affected the performanceat all, but it certainly doesn't instill confidence when a bat chips this easily. I guess you just have to be careful not to throw the bat.

Pros: Just bought the Salvo about two weeks ago, has a decent amount of pop out the wrap. Really nice crack sound to the bat. Love the slight end loaded feeling, feels really good when swinging enough to tell the differnce but not too much to weight you down. The sweet spot on this thing feels huge it seems like i hit it every time i swing. You can tell this bat will be nasty hot when it breaks in more. CANT WAIT!!!

Cons: Ive put this bat through one game and a round of batting pratice about 100 balls or so and the paint is chipping makes it look like the barrel is cracked. Also it started to rattle inside the bat during bp but then went away? Hope it doesnt come back again hate to send it in.

Pros: I have used the bat in a couple of league games and have hit nothing but line drives! I am not a power hitter by any means but have 2 HRs and 4 doubles in 6 abs! Two of my teammates are now using it as well and they love it! I hope it holds up...

Cons: One of the guys tried it and had trouble going the opposite way (his primary way of hitting). He thinks the end load is the issue but everyone else that has used the bat loves it...

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton Salvo Comp 98 Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SP12SV98? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat single wall? Tommy
Yes. The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 is a single wall bat.
Tyler
How does this bat compare to the origanal Salvo? Would you reccomend this over the origanal? bada
The Easton Salvo Comp 98 (SP12SV98) is going to be the most similar to the Easton Salvo (SRV5) than all the other 2013 Easton Salvo models. Both the SRV5 and the SP12SV98 will have a slight end load feel and will be approved for the same governing bodies.
John
Does this bat have the approved 2013 stamp? Davros
Yes, the 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 features the new USSSA BPF 1.20 on the taper of the bat. This will meet any of the new restrictions and rulings to this point (4/9/2012).
John
What's the best way to break this bat in? Matt
We suggest taking 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about a quarter of an inch every swing to break in the composite material evenly.
Kara
What is the difference between this bat and the SRV5? Why is the SRV5 going to be illegal and this bat not? shaungo
The Easton Salvo SRV5 and the 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 are very similar bats and will perform just about the same. They are both one piece composite designs with a slight end load and lots of pop. The SRV5 does not have the new USSSA stamp making it illegal for USSSA play in 2013. The Salvo Comp 98 does have this stamp and will be legal for use in USSSA play in 2013.
Jennifer
WILL THIS BAT BE APPROVED FOR ASA PLAY 2012 AND ON? I'VE HEARD ASA MAY BE CHANGING BAT REGULATIONS. JJ
The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 has both the required ASA stamp and the new USSSA stamp as well. To our knowledge, we have not heard anything about ASA changing any regulations, so at this time (4/17/12) this bat is still legal.
Jennifer
Should I get 26oz or 27oz? I'm average height/weight male. Wg3
I would recommend a 27 ounce bat if you are average in height and weight.
Tyler
Hey there. I'm 5-9 195lbs, above average strength. This will be my first bat, can you recommend a weight? marc
Based on your height and weight we recommend a 26oz, 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98.
Kara
Does the 2013 Salvo have the 2012 ASA certified stamp...? softballfan1
The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 does have the new USSSA stamp. If you look at the small pictures at the top of the page for this bat you will be able to see this stamp printed on the bat.
Jennifer
I'm having a hard time deciding between the 34/26 and the 34/27. I'm 6'1 about 185. What is the suggested size for me? If I go too light will I lose a lot of power? DC
I would recommend a 27oz. 2013 Easton Salvo 98 Comp based on your size. This will give you optimal power and mass behind the ball.
Tyler
I currently swing a 34/28 balanced DeMarini. I'm 6'1 210 lbs. Should I stick with the 28 oz weight or go down in weight to account for the slight endload? AC
If you are moving from a balanced bat to an end loaded bat, most people recommend moving down an ounce or two in weight to accommodate for that end loaded feel.
John
Will this bat hold up in cold weather? me
The issue is the ball, not the bat. Cold temperatures make the ball denser, which puts unusual stress on the bat walls. Normally, any type of bat should not be used in temperatures below 55 degrees.
Kara
I have the original Salvo SRV5 and have had it for 3 yrs and it is sick, and was thinking about getting the new one but have heard mixed reviews like they break fast and they dont have as much pop. Are they just as nice and is their bat life just as long? jmall
The new 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 will be just as durable and have just as much pop as the SRV5. Easton improves their technology every year to improve performance and durability.
Kara
5'11 190 have power to fence but like to place hit, will this bat work and what weight? 42Lo
This would be a great bat for a strong hitter. Weight comes down to your strength, swing speed, and personal preference, but a 28 oz. model would be the best bet.
Tyler
What weight would be best for me. I am 5'7 200lbs? john
With slow pitch bats, the biggest part of picking the right weight comes down to the player's personal preference, strength and swing speed. If you have well above average strength and swing speed, a 30 oz bat would be recommended. If you have average to slightly above average strength and swing speed, I would recommend a 28 oz. If you are below average in both categories, go with a 27 or 26 oz model.
Tyler
I'm 5'6 125lb female, what weight/length is best for me? Ann
If you're in the market for a slow pitch bat, a 34" 26 oz. bat would be recommended.
Tyler
I am a 6' 165 lb male who plays golf so I know about club head and bat head speed. I would say I can generate average to above average club head and bat head speed. I've been using an old 34" 30 oz Easton balanced bat for the longest time and now want to get a end loaded bat. What weight do you think is best for me? Tiberius
If you were to go with an end loaded bat, I would recommend getting a 28 oz. bat. Since the weight distribution is going to be more towards the end of the bat, it is going to feel heavier than the listed weight.
Nick K.
Is this bat single or double wall? TJ
The terms Single Wall and Double Wall are traditionally reserved for alloy bats, but the Easton Salvo Comp 98 would be considered a Single Wall bat.
Tyler
I am 4'6 weigh 65 lbs and need a -8 bat. What bat length and weight do I need? Mitch
The suggested length and weight for a player your size would be a 29" 21 oz. or a 28" 20 oz. bat.
Tom
I am a 6'3" 165 lbs male with I would say average bat head speed. Should I use a 27 oz. or 28 oz. bat? AB
It comes down to personal preference, but a 28 oz bat is most common.
Tyler
We use a mid compression softball of .44 375. Do you recommend this bat for this type of ball? md
The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 would be suitable for a mild compression softball.
Kara
Is this a one-piece or two-piece bat? What weight do you suggest for a 5 foot 10" 175 pound man. md
The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98: SP12SV98 is a one-piece fully composite bat. A 28 or 27 oz. bat would be a good fit for you.
Tom
Is there a difference between endloaded swing weight (as said in the salvo multiwall) and slight endload (this bat)? AB
Full end loaded bats will have an approximate 1 oz endload. Bats with a slight end load will be around a .5 oz end load. So, the Easton Salvo will have a swing weight that's about .5 ounces lighter than a similar size bat with a full end load.
Tyler
how does this bat differ from the new power brigade XL2? They seem to have identical specs and different paint jobs... ablackcar
The Easton XL2 is a baseball bat. The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98: SP12SV98 is a slow pitch softball bat. The XL2 is designed for use with hard baseballs pitched at higher velocities. The Easton Salvo is designed for use with slow pitch softballs and will not withstand use with baseballs pitched at high velocities.
Tyler
How long is the warranty on this bat? And how could I know if my bat is still under warranty? Bruno
The 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98: SP12SV98 Slow Pitch has a 400 day warranty from the date of purchase.
Kara
What's the currently-available equivalent for this bat, since this has been discontinued? MP
Unfortunately, there is no direct-equivalent to the 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98: SP12SV98 Slow Pitch in the 2014 Easton Slow Pitch line. This bat is approved for ASA and USSSA, while most bats produced this year will not feature both certifications. The most similar models in the Easton line are the L2.0, L4.0, L5.0, and L6.0. All are one-piece composites with end loaded swing weights. The only differences between them are the materials used in the handles and the performance certifications.
Mac
How does this bat perform with hot dots? smitty
This 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 (SP12SV98) Slow Pitch bat features the 2004 ASA performance certification mark and was designed for the higher compression softballs that ASA used prior to moving to the Hot Dot .52 COR balls. The older bats do not perform as well with the new softballs.
Mac
Why would you ever discontinue such an amazing bat? Will you ever sell this bat again? Macy
Easton discontinued making the Easton Salvo Comp 98 Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP12SV98) because they have replaced their slowpitch lineup into what can be categorized as their B's and L's lineups. The "B" lineup features all balanced models, whereas the "L" lineup features their end loaded design. The models that will be most similar to this one would be either the 2014 Easton L4.0 Brett Helmer Pro Model Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP14L4) if you play ASA, or the 2014 Easton L2.0 Brian Wegman Pro Model Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP14L2) if you play in USSSA, NSA, ISA, and ISF. These models feature the same one-piece end loaded design as well as the IMX composite barrel. They also feature an upgraded handle made out of the SIC composite material.
Tessa
Since it is discontinued, what is the best replacement bat? Elizabeth
The replacement bat for the Easton Salvo Comp 98 Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP12SV98) would be the 2015 Easton Salvo Comp Loaded ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP15SVA) or the 2015 Easton Salvo Comp Loaded USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SP15SVU), depending on which certification you needed.
