The S3Z is an improvement from last years S3 with its hyperlite Matrix Alloy that adds durability and allows an extension of the sweet spot without having to add barrel thickness.
The XL1 is a different feel so if that has worked the change to the S3Z may not be an improvement.

The alloy design is also hot right out of the wrapper, while the composite barrel of the S1 will require a break-in period prior to game-use. Neither bat is proven to outperform the other, but each player will likely prefer one design over the other.

Usually contact hitters that are looking for a little extra "pop" will look to bats with a two-piece design that will give them some flex within the bat when they swing. If a player's swing isn't designed to create power by itself, the flex can create a little more "jump" or "pop" needed to put some more distance into the ball. Typically for contact or gap hitters, we recommend a two-piece balanced bat. This is due to the fact that two-piece bats actually flex when being swung through the zone. This flex will allow you to increase your bat speed. A one-piece bat will be much stiffer through the zone, and won't have quite the same effect on your bat speed. The 2015 Easton S3Z ZCORE Baseball Bat (BB15S3Z) is a one-piece bat, therefore it will not have the same effect on your bat speed as a two-piece model.

We wouldn't recommend using any game bat in a batting cage that uses rubber "dimple" balls. Those balls are a bit more dense than the regulation game balls that these bats are designed for. Easton also lists a few exceptions to their warranty on their site: http://www.easton.com/support/warranty-and-returns/bat-warranty/. One of those is that they will not accept bats under warranty that have "been used in a commercial batting cage".

If the bat is taken care of properly and the ball is hit near the sweet spot of the barrel consistently the bat should last awhile. With all that said, all metal bats will not last forever and are susceptible to denting/breaking. I played HS ball in the -5 era and college ball at the -3 era. I cracked or broke nearly every -5 model I ever used, but have never used a BBCOR bat long enough to know the durability. I am more of a power hitter when I bat right handed, but since I switch hit, I tend to bat a lot more left handed to improve contact. I also tend to drop down to a 32" model.
