Incredible Fordy player

Pros: This bat is incredibly balanced and gets through the zone fast! I've used it twice and hit 1 triple and a double. I recently had a 2012 Easton xl1 and this bat beats it by a Longshot! Not to me tom it's SWEET graphics

Cons: Everybody wants to use it!

Amazing Bat Zack player

Pros: I used this bat today and I was taken back by how natural of a feel it has. It's a perfect bat for both power hitters and contact hitters. Great pop with a lightweight feel. Way more pop than the 2014 model, which I currently have. Considering getting rid of my 2014 and getting this bat.

I really like this bat and I recommend it Nick player

Pros: Light swing that doesn't make you drop your shoulder or bat. Two piece aluminum and composite. Doesn't feel like a -3 which is good for players that have just started using a -3.

Cons: Shorter barrel, but when in contact with the ball it has a lot of pop.

Great all around bat. ATK player

Pros: Price. Good balance, yet you can still feel the barrel through the zone because of the C6 composite handle. Better pop than advertised. Game ready right of the box.

Cons: Wish it had the RCK knob like the CF7 and Voodoo.

2015 DiMarini Vexxum Upstate NY Dad player

Pros: My now 14 year old is on his 4th Vexxum, he's used them from age 12 on. He is 5'2" 110 lbs and very athletic. He has fast hands through the zone and these bats have been super. It's the best bat for the money in my opinion for a contact hitter. I also bought him the VooDoo mid way through the 2015 season ( he wanted to try something different )and while he had some good hits, the Vexxum is the right bat for his swing style. He uses the 32" -3 orange colored model. He has hit the ball 365 feet with this bat. Some of his friends have the Mako, but I can almost buy 2 Vexxum bats for same $ as Mako. With kids outgrowing bats quickly, we saved money without sacrificing performance.

Cons: None that we have found.

How does the pop compare to other hybrid options? J
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) will be up to all BBCOR certifications and would have similar pop to all other BBCOR certified hybrid designs.
Patrick
What is the difference between this model and the 2014 model? njk
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has new and improved X12 alloy compared to the X10 alloy that was used on the 2014 model. This new alloy is designed for increased durability and performance.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the CF7? wilzy
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has a two-piece hybrid design with a balanced swing weight. The Vexxum NVS has a more balanced swing weight and will have more flex than the CF7.
Jason
I am 5 foot 2 and weigh 110 pounds. I am not a power hitter. I am looking for a good bat for speed. Can the 31 inch 28 ounce Vexxum work for me? E
Based on your height and weight, the 31 inch of the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) would be within the range that could work for you but a 30 inch may fit a bit better if you are looking for added speed.
Patrick
I'm a 5'9", 150 lb. freshman. I hit farther than most my teammates but I'm on the weaker part of team as far as strength goes. Would this bat or one of the CF series bat be best for me? bomb squad
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) and the CF Series from DeMarini are high performing models to choose from. They are also very similar since they are both two-piece bats and also feature a balanced swing weight. The main difference between the two is that the Vexxum is a hybrid bat, so it has an alloy barrel and composite handle. It will be good to go right out of the wrapper and will not require a break in period. The CF Series all feature a fully composite design, so they will have to go through a break in period before they will see their top performances. Both options are great choices to go with, ultimately, it will be a matter of preference of barrel material.
Tessa
The 2014 Vexxum was said to be the lightest swinging BBCOR on the market. Is the same true for this 2015 model? swing&amiss
The new 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) will have similar lightweight feel to the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). They are both some of the most balanced hybrid designs available making them have a very low swing weight.
Patrick
Does this bat require a break in time, or is this ready straight out of the wrapper? Fordy
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS (DXVXC) will not require any break in time because it features an alloy barrel.
Kelby
I am 6'0 and 173 pounds. Should I use a 33" or 34"? Matt
Based on your approximate height and weight, I would suggest 33" in the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat: (DXVXC).
Merritt
I am 5 foot 4 and 125 pounds. I am a number three hitter. What length bat should I get? Keis
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest using a 31 inch size of the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC).
Patrick
I'm 5'8" and weigh 175 lbs. Should I get a 33"? perdue
Based on your height and weight, our Bat Coach recommends a 32" 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). Sizing is preferential though, so if you would feel more comfortable going with a 33", that is definitely something to take into consideration.
Tessa
I'm 5'6" and about 110 lbs. What model should I get? PK
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) in a 31" would be a perfect bat for you at your size. It will be very balanced and have a light swing weight. Also, the half and half design will cut down on hand sting and vibrations on mishits.
Brandon
I'm a freshmen at 5' 7" 165 lbs. I like to hit for power, but have a strange love for the Vexxum. Does this bat have similar or better pop, compared to prior year's Vexxum models? lucas v the g
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) should feel very similar to the 2014 Vexxum NVS. These two years will be exceptionally lighter and more balanced compared to the older Vexxum models. They will help you hit with great bat speeds.
Brandon
How does pop compare to the 2015 Voodoo OVERLORD or the CF7? duncan
The CF7 from DeMarini will probably perform the highest out of the three. But the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) will have the lowest MOI and most balanced swing weight of the three. The pop is very good for a half and half design. (Composite handle/Alloy barrel)
Brandon
My son is 5 foot 7 and weighs about 97 pounds and is a freshman in high school. He is a contact hitter. What size of bat and which bat should he get? Rascal
The balanced design of the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is a great option for a contact hitter who is transitioning to BBCOR and looking for more bat speed. However, based on your son's height and weight, we would suggest around a 30 inch bat so he may be better off going with a bat that comes in that size like the 2014 DeMarini CF6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC).
Patrick
The bat makes a weird sound, is it normal? Could it be the ball? I've never used a BBCOR bat before so I don't know. Keisuke
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features an alloy barrel that should make a ping sound when hit with a standard baseball. If it is making other noises it may be an issue with the barrel or where on the barrel you are hitting the ball or the type of ball being hit.
Patrick
My son is 4'10" and 100 lbs. His coach suggested a 31", 28oz bat. Does that seem correct? Rick
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is an excellent bat. However the 31" 28oz might not be the right fit. I would suggest a 30" 27oz if he is in a league that is requiring BBCOR certified bats.
Jake
Is this bat any different than the 2014 Vexxum and which should I get? Dillon
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has new X12 alloy compared to X10 alloy on the 2014 Vexxum. The two bats will perform the same though,it really comes down to personal preference on the cosmetic design.
Jason
What is the difference between an X10 alloy barrel and an X12? I mean in the way they are built, not that one has more strength. In terms of material or thickness. frosh luke
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) uses an upgraded X12 alloy versus the X10 Alloy of years past. This new alloy uses an optimal blend of alloy agents designed to create optimal strength at the thinnest point. This means that they can create a thinner barrel, without sacrificing the durability of the barrel. A thinner barrel can create more overall pop off the bat, but in most cases this can also mean durability issues. DeMarini has found a way to keep a very thin barrel but still allow for optimal strength and durability with their upgraded X12 alloy.
Tessa
Im 5'8" at about 130 pounds. Im the lead off hitter for my team and im more of a contact or line drive hitter. Would this bat be good for me since i dont have a whole lot of power at the plate? Or would another bat be better? Timmy
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is ideal for any contact hitter. It features a two-piece hybrid design with a C6 composite handle for additional flex as well as the X12 alloy for optimal strength. Additionally, it does feature an Ultra-Light end cap as well as the NVS barrel for faster swing speed. This bad will be exceptionally well-balanced and suited for a contact hitter.
Joe
My son will be a freshman this year. He is 5'11" and weighs 210 lbs. What size do you recommend? Lance
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 33" 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). For more information on sizing, check out our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tessa
Can this bat be used in colder temperatures? Or should it not be used just like fully composite bats? Spencer
We actually recommend that no bay, regardless of whether it is alloy or composite should be used in temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not due to quality issues with the bats. At those temperatures, the materials used in the ball will actually become more dense and can damage the bats.
Joe
Which has better performance, this or the CAT 6? lil kk
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) and the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC614) would be similar in terms of maximum batted ball speed they can produce due to the BBCOR certification. The main difference would be in the feel and the flex. The Vexxum will flex more and have a bit better sting and vibration reducing technology.
Patrick
As a 5'10", 155 lb freshman what length bat is recommended? I've used a 32" the last 2 years and I am considering moving up to a 33". Matt
For a player with your height and weight our charts recommend a 32" in the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). The charts can vary though depending on the players strength and other factors. If you have been comfortable swinging a 32" 29 oz. you may be able to bump up to a 33". I would recommend trying to borrow a teammates 33" bat and taking some dry cuts with that.
John
Out of the Demarini CF5, NVS Vexxum, and the Voodoo which one would be best for a power hitter? Justin
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) and the CF5 are going to be balanced bats best for contact hitters. The DeMarini Voodoo is going to be an end loaded bat best for power hitters.
Frankie
How long is the barrel piece on 2015 Vexxum NVS BBCOR? Nate
On the 32 inch model of the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) measures around 12.5 inches on the alloy portion of the bat from where the end cap connects to the point that the handle and the barrel connect.
Frankie
I'm 12 years old 4'11" and 93 pounds. Which size of this bat would you suggest? Jason
For a player of your size, our bat coach recommends the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) in a 31" 28 oz. model. I would recommend double-checking if you need BBCOR model. It is required for all high school and collegiate play, however certain leagues for younger players can also allow it.
Joe
I'm 5'11" and 210 pounds. I'm more of a contact hitter but i still like a stiffer bat. Should I get this bat or another one? What size do I need? johnny
For a player of your size, our bat coach would recommend the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) in a 33" 30 oz. model. The Vexxum does have quite a bit of flex due to the two-piece hybrid design, and probably isn't the stiffest model available. You could consider the RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR Baseball Bat (B1403) which is a one-piece full alloy model that will be fairly stiff and feature an end-loaded swing weight.
Joe
Is this bat good for contact hitters? johnny baseball
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features a two-piece hybrid design with a composite handle and alloy barrel that we would recommend for a contact to gap hitter. Typically power hitters prefer a stiffer one piece model or an end-loaded model.
Joe
Can you use this bat in high school? steven
Yes the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is approved for high school play.
Frankie
My son is almost 15 and is 6 foot tall and weight 125 pounds. He already has a 2014 DeMarini Voodoo. We are thinking of getting another bat for him. What would you recommend? swinger
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is a nice option. It would be a more balanced feel than the end-loaded Voodoo so it would have a bit lighter of a swing weight. If you like the end-loaded feel, we would either recommend sticking with the Voodoo or checking out the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7153) or the 2015 Easton XL1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15X1).
Patrick
I'm 5'10" and 165 pounds. I just started using BBCOR bats and my swing is fairly slow. Would this be a good bat for a contact hitter? kade
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features a two-piece hybrid design with a balanced swing weight that would be ideal for contact hitters. Two-piece models typically generate additional flex through the zone, which allows for faster bat speed. For a player of your size, our bat coach would recommend a 32" 29 oz. model.
Joe
Do you have to break the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS in? bseaton8
No. The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has an alloy barrel that does not require a break-in process.
Patrick
I'm 15, 5'7" and 125 lbs. I'm not sure whether to get this bat, the Demarini CF7 or the Easton S1? I am mainly a contact hitter. sparky42
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features a two piece hybrid design with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. It offers a very balanced swing weight and will increase your bat speed. The 2015 DeMarini CF7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) features a two piece full composite design with an extremely balanced swing weight and the D-Fusion handle, which does a great job of absorbing any shock and sting traveling through the barrel of the bat. The 2015 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15S1) features a two-piece full composite design with a balanced swing weight. All three of these bats are ideal for a contact to gap hitter. The performance of all three models will be within a similar range, although I would lean more towards the composite models.
Joe
Does this bat have a lighter swing weight than the Omaha 515? chan
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features a two piece hybrid design with a composite handle and alloy barrel. It also offers a balanced swing weight. Typically two piece models offer additional flex through the zone, which allows for quicker bat speeds. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5153) features a one piece full alloy design with a balanced swing weight.
Joe
Why does it cost less than the Voodoo? kangeroo
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is the more balanced bat. It will not feel as heavy or end loaded. That could have something to do with it. It is a very popular model getting great reviews!
Brandon
How much vibration will your hands feel? Will it help to wear batting gloves? cam
Since the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is a two piece composite it will not have any vibrations, but if you ever do have any batting gloves is the best option to help prevent it.
Allison
Does Demarini make 30 inch 27 ounce models of this 2015 Vexxum or will you be getting any in? james
At this time, DeMarini does not carry a 30"/27 oz. model of the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC), and as far as we know we aren't getting any in either.
Chinyere
I am 14 years old and 125 lbs. What size would you recommend for me? SCHMITZZZY
For a player of your size and age, our bat coach would recommend the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) in a 32" 29 oz. model.
Joe
I am 5'3" and 150 lbs. I am a power hitter. Would this be a good bat for me? Chico
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) features a two piece hybrid design with a well balanced swing weight. Typically, we would recommend this model for a contact or gap hitter. Power hitters usually prefer models such as the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVDC). For a player of your size, our bat coach would recommend a 31" 28 oz. model.
Joe
What is the difference between this bat and the 2014 model? loganator
The main difference between the two is the upgrade in the alloy barrel. The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has the X12 Alloy and the 2014 model has the X10 Alloy.
Chinyere
I'm 4'9 and 100 pounds. Would this bat be too heavy for me in a 31" 28 oz.? How would the CF7 be for me in a 30" 27 oz. size? bab
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). Sizing is preferential though, so if you wanted to size up to a 31" bat, that is something to take into consideration. Generally, you want to swing the longest and heaviest bat that you can comfortably and consistently control. Ultimately, it will be up to you, your overall strength, as well as your bat speed.
Tessa
The BBCOR and the -5 version of this bat look exactly the same. They have the same composite handle and alloy barrel. The -5 version has a BPF of 1.15 which is a different standard than BBCOR. I am wondering if the performance of both bats is the same, which will mean that the -5 performs that same as the BBCOR. I am considering going from a -8 directly to BBCOR because I think that the performance between the -5 and BBCOR versions are negligible. Will the -5 and BBCOR bats basically perform the same since they use the same materials in the bats? Tim
No, BBCOR certified bats like the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) will have a dulled down performance level compared to the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVX5). The 1.15 BPF standard is a loser restriction than BBCOR certification and allows for more trampoline effect off the bat.
Patrick
I am 13 years old and 5 foot 4 inches tall and I weigh 140 pounds. What size bat do you think would be a good size for me? johnny
Based on height and weight, we would recommend a 31 inch size in a BBCOR certified bat like the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC).
Patrick
I am 16 years old, 5'10 and about 165-70 lbs. Would you recommend a 32 inch 29 oz. or a 33 inch 30oz? benji
We would recommend the 32" 29 oz. in the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) for a player with your height and weight.
John
Is this bat approved for Intermediate division and Junior league? ConCon
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) can be used for both of those divisions of Little League play.
Patrick
I am 6 feet tall and weigh 176 pounds and have the other Vexxum, the one that is orange and black. It is a great bat! But should I get this one? Ben
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) will be more balanced than the older orange and black model that had a more end-loaded feel. If you liked the feel of that older model, I would suggest looking at the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVDC).
Patrick
Is the barrel on this bat the same size as the 2014 model? 2ndBase
The barrel size is the same on the 2014 & 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC)
Jake
Which bat would you recommend for me: this bat or the 2015 Easton XL1 BBCOR? I am 4'8" and weigh 83 pounds. baseball boy
For a player of your stature, I would recommend the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC). This bat features a balanced swing weight, so it will be easier to work on bat speed and bat control. The Easton XL1 is a great choice, however, it features an end loaded swing weight. End loaded bats tend to be preferred by players who are on the stronger side and don't have any problems generating their own bat speed.
Tessa
I am currently using the 2012 Vexxum and love how the swing feels. Does this bat have a similar swing weight. If not what bat would you recommend? Pat
The 2012 DeMarini Vexxum BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVNC) had a more end-loaded feel during that model year and would be more similar in feel to the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVDC). The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) has a more balanced and light swing weight.
Patrick
My 14 year old swings a 32 inch and a 33 inch DeMarini metal 2 metal BBCOR. He is a contact hitter with a high OBP. I am looking for a bat that will be as good. I am looking at the Vexxum NVS and the Marucci One. I need an all around bat that will work, with power. srlone
Based on what he had been using, I would say the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) may be the better choice for you due to the two-piece design. The Marucci ONE BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB1) could work well but I feel the Vexxum would be a better fit for what he is used to.

how does this stack up against more expensive demarini bats like the cf7 and voodoo overlord ft? Will it preform noticeably different than the voodoo or cf7? BWilly33
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVXC is going to be much different from the CF7 in the sense that it is a hybrid design with an alloy barrel while the CF7 is a two-piece fully composite construction. The Voodoo is similar in the sense that it is a hybrid design but the Voodoo features an end loaded swing weight while the Vexxum features the lowest MOI in the DeMarini lineup. As far as overall performance goes, all three of these bats are excellent. It is all going to depend on what type of bat you are looking for. There is no wrong choice here.

how does overall performance of the 2015 vexxum nvs bbcor compare to demarinis more expensive models like the voodoo overlord ft and cf7 bbcor? BWILDE22
The 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) compared to the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVDC) is essentially the same bat except for the OVERLORD being slightly end-loaded. Both bats feature X12 alloy barrel - proprietary blend of alloy that creates optimal strength and performance. The other slight differences in the handle, end cap and knob will not give one of these bats necessarily better performance over the other. As far as how these two bats compare to the 2015 DeMarini CF7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) you will begin to see a possible difference in performance. The CF7 is also a two-piece bat but will be fully composite. The carbon fiber barrel features a balanced swing weight that will require a break-in period of 150-250 swings off a tee or soft toss (the Voodoo and the Vexxum will be ready to go out of the wrapper as they are alloy) and will give slightly better performance in warmer weather (alloy better in cold weather). Similarities with the CF7 and the Voodoo will be the handle, end cap and knob.

I am 5 foot 11 inches and about 175 pounds. I currently use a 32 inch bat which I have no problem with the bat speed. Considering that this bat has a light swing weight is it appropriate to get a 33 inch for more plate coverage? Nate
For your height and weight, a 32 inch size would typically still be suggested for the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC).
Patrick
What is the difference between this bat and the Easton S3Z Zcore- BBCOR bat? Which one would you recommend for a Freshman in high school that is 5'7 , 130 lbs? P.J.
The DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is going to be a two-piece design with an alloy barrel and a composite handle. The Easton S3z is going to be a one-piece all alloy. Both are going to be a very well balanced design. Both are great options for a player moving into a BBCOR bat for the first time due to them being well balanced.
John

The DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVXC will be very different from the Marucci CAT 8. The DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVXC will be a two-piece hybrid so it will flex at the point of contact while the CAT 8 will be very stiff. Performance will be similar for both.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
