The 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK) and the 2016 DeMarini CF8 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) are both great options to consider for someone using BBCOR. Both bats will feature a balanced feel. With that said, I would suggest going with a 30/27 (assuming player is not use to the drop 3) to give the individual a better chance of success based on the player's height and weight.

If you consider yourself a power hitter, then it might be advantageous to have a bat with an end-loaded swing weight like the MAKO XL to increase distance in your hits. However, if you have used balanced bats in the past and have seen the results you like, then a move to an end-loaded bat would not be a complete necessity.

Typically, power hitters will prefer an end-loaded bat like the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL. The reason for this is an end-loaded bat can potentially create more power. The way this is achieved is due to the smaller sweet spot that is more concentrated in weight. This will help create more whip/pendulum effect. When the ball is squared up properly there is greater chance of increased distance. The 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK is a balanced swing and will be a great bat for the contact type hitter. The reason for this is the barrel will be easier to control with the balanced swing weight; this is achieved by spreading the weight of the bat evenly throughout the entire barrel, giving a larger sweet spot but less concentrated in weight.

In regard to "pop", this BB16MK model has a slight advantage in the JustBats customer reviews, but overall, I think the two bats will be pretty similar in regard to "pop". (My general recommendation for you would be for a 32"/29 oz model of each bat. Just be sure you can handle the 29 oz weight)

The MAKO is pretty hot out of the wrapper, but it will still benefit from a break-in of about 50 swings. It is best to take those swings off a tee and gradually work you swing speed up from 50%, while rotating the barrel every few swings.

If you have been using it for a long time there really isn't anything you can do to break it in more. If you believe the bat is defective which is possible I would contact Easton's warranty department at (888) 259-1297.

We recommend about 150 to 200 swings off of a tee to break in the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK and most other composite bats. Also, be sure to rotate the bat a quarter of an inch after each swing to break in all sides of the bat. As for the pop of the MAKO it will run out of pop over time just from normal use but there is not set time period that a bat will last.
