Description

The most reliable alloy bat on the market is back and ready to improve the games of players everywhere! The Rawlings 5150 Alloy is constructed with a one-piece 100% alloy frame. The ultra-responsive 5150 Alloy barrel has been formulated for higher strength and increased flex. The result is an unmatched combination of trampoline and durability. As a result of new precision manufacturing capabilities, 5150 Alloy bats are consistently hotter than aluminum bats of the past. The thing that sets these baseball bats apart from the competition, however, is the extremely balanced feel that gives hitters maximum swing speed and improved bat control! Rawlings once again employs the help of Sci-Fly technology with their development of this year's line. This is a Ball Flight and Hitting Analysis System using Doppler Radar to track ball flight characteristics. The launch angle, ball speed, hit distance, and spin rate from the point of contact is measured to scientifically identify a bat that matches a unique swing style. Expect nothing less than optimal performance with the Rawlings 5150 Alloy bat! Rawlings: Maximum Performance Where It Matters Most on the Field! The 5150 Alloy features the 1.15 USSSA Stamp and is legal for play in and beyond! This Rawlings 5150 Alloy comes with a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Coach

Pros: Bat has a lot of pop.

Cons: I bought this bat and a Worth Lithium Prodigy on the same day for my 7yr old. This bat looked like a wiffle ball after a week. He only weighs 60 lbs. and is a contact hitter, not a power hitter. I was very displeased with this bat. Buy the Worth, it's a hot bat and it has held up.

Linda
is this going to be offered in a 28-18 diamond 9
No, this bat is not offered in a 28" 18 oz.
Sean
Does this bat come in a 31 21 o 31 22? Jacketfan
For those sizes you would have to look at the senior league. Take a look at the SL51V.
John
The USSSA stamp, Is it on the handle, just before the barrel flares out? GWC
Yes, that is where the stamp is located.
Kara
is this bat more durable than the easton v12, my 7 yr old sons team dented that one quick jg
The 5150 alloy is pretty durable. If it is a "team bat" it will wear at a faster rate than if is was just your child's bat.
Linda
how long is it woop
The length will be listed under the length and weight options.
John
Will this bat be legal in 2012 for USSSA kid pitch age 9U? JY
Yes. This is approved for USSSA and will have the new stamp.
KG
How does this bat differ from the SL51V in 27-17? Pop? Balance? Durability? Dan
The Sl51V is constructed for higher velocity pitching than the YB5J10. The YB5J10 is constructed for coach pitch and will not likely hold up against live kid pitching.

Looking for a bat for my grandson. Last year he used a 25" 13 ounce, this year he may be using a 25" 15 ounce bat. I understand all children are different in size and strength. I Would like to see if the 27" 17 ounce bat fits him ok if he chokes an inch or two and if he can still get good bat speed. If I order the new 5150, and he is not able to get it around, can the bat be returned. I should be able to tell right away. Jim
There is no time frame that unused items in their original condition may be returned for exchange or refund. To return an item, just fill out the return information at the bottom of the invoice letting us know if you would like a refund or exchange.

Looking at the smaller big barrel bats for my son. We live in a colder climate. Which bat performs better in lower temperatures? Jon
If you are looking for a bat that can stand up pretty good to colder temperatures, I would suggest checking out an alloy bat, like this one. These alloy bats can withstand colder temperatures better than composite bats, but they do still have their limits. We recommend not using a composite bat in temperatures cooler than about 50-55 degrees, but alloy bats can be used in cooler temperatures. It is just recommended to try to limit the bat's use as much as you can.
Jennifer
Is this bat good for kid pitch or just coach pitch? Louie
Junior Big Barrel bats are designed for players at the Coach Pitch level. If you're in kid pitch, you'll want to look at Youth Big Barrel Bats.
Tyler
Is this bat Little League approved? James
The 2012 Rawlings 5150 Alloy is not approved for Little League.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
