Monday Meet And Greet: Derek H

Every Monday we’d like you to meet someone new around here at JustBats.com. Get to know us a little better! Meet Derek! Derek is the Contact Center Coordinator and he makes sure you get awesome answers to your questions online! Here is what makes Derek tick.

1. How long have you worked here at JustBats.com?
I’ve been working at JustBats.Com since February, 2012
2. What are some of your responsibilities as Contact Center Coordinator?
I manage the customer service team that handles online customer communications. That includes the customer’s Q&A’s, our Live Chat feature, customer emails and product reviews. Most recently I’ve been working with the rest of the Contact Center Management Team revamping the training program for newly hired Customer Service Representatives.
3. What do you enjoy most about the Contact Center at JustBats.com?
Life in the Contact Center changes on a daily basis. That variety is what keeps things fresh and interesting. I also get to work with a great management team and CSRs.
4. What’s your favorite memory since working at JustBats.com?
In the office, I’d say completing the new hire training. It was a group effort that took a lot of time and it’s satisfying to finally be training new CSRs soon. Outside of the office, I’d say it was winning my heat in the 400M Corporate Challenge track meat. I chased down the leader on the home stretch and passed him just as we reached the finish line while all my teammates were there cheering me on.
5. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy Kansas City sports teams, the Kansas Jayhawks, fishing and camping, grilling, CrossFit and traveling to see friends and family.
6. Any advice for people coming in to your line of work?
Be truthful with yourself about your desire to help people. Our main goal in the Contact Center is to help customers and this can be challenging at times. If you aren’t a people person and not truly interested in helping the customer, than the Contact Center is probably not the ideal place for you.
7. What gets you laughing the hardest?
Nothing gets me laughing harder than hanging around with my buddies that I’ve known since 3rd grade. We’ve lived through each others ups and downs, know all the skeletons in the closet and exactly what to say to crack each other up.
8. What’s your favorite sport and team?
I love the Royals and Chiefs, but nothing gets my competitiveness fired up like the Kansas Jayhawks. Rock Chalk!

Monday Meet And Greet: Megan P

Every Monday we’d like you to meet someone new around here at JustBats.com. Get to know us a little better! Meet Megan! Megan works in the Creative Department and makes sure that our product videos are fresh and full of great information to make your buying experience even better! Here is what makes Megan tick.

1. How long have you worked here at JustBats.com?
I’m a couple months shy of a year.
2. What are some of your responsibilities in the Creative Department?
My main responsibility is to produce videos for our website, so I write a lot, direct shoots, upload videos, etc. If I’m lucky, I get to shoot and edit a piece, but most of the time I’m busy with other video-related tasks.
3. What are your favorite aspects of working with video and film?
Hands down shooting and editing a powerful piece. It’s amazing how video can impact a person’s life or change their world view.
4. Tell us what you enjoy most about working at JustBats.com?
I have to agree with everyone else on this one. The culture! The people here are so friendly and fun to be around. I also can’t emphasize enough how amazing the facility is. I pinch myself everyday.
5. What is your process like for coming up with scripts or content for our product videos?
I typically do research on the web or check our manufacturer’s catalogs. I also ask our product experts a lot of questions!
6. You’re pretty athletic, what keeps you motivated to stay in shape and be healthy?
I’d say that sports motivated me through college. I wanted to be the best I could possibly be. Post college, I continue to stay active because I love it. I like to push myself, and I always feel great physically and mentally when I’m finished.
7. Whats your favorite memory so far from JustBats.com?
There are so many good memories that it’s hard to say. I really enjoyed our company holiday party last year.
8. Since you are a huge part of the video department here, I have to ask, what are your top 3 favorite movies?
That is so stinkin’ tough!! A League of Their Own, Million Dollar Baby, and Wall-E to name a few of MANY!
9. Tell us what you enjoy doing outside of working at JustBats.com.
Like I said before, I love being active, so I ride my road bike, run, and play sports. I also enjoy traveling, watching college football, watching movies, and spending time with those I love most.
10. What gets you laughing the most?
Sex and the City episodes, Modern Family, and my significant other

Water Aerobics Class

Variety is the spice of life, but it is also a major factor in keeping people motivated to exercise, so Justbats.com has a pool on site that offers employees an unconventional option to get in their daily dose of exercise. Water is energetic.  It can be used as a powerful means of resistance for exercising, all while relaxing the joints and large muscle groups that we depend on all day. One can use the powerful properties of water to get in a cardio, muscular, and flexibility workout in just 20 minutes. Justbats.com employees love to mix things up so you can always bet on someone aqua-exercising with smiles from ear to ear.

Starting The Year With A Challenge To Create Healthier Lifestyles

In the month January, JustBats.com employees competed in an inner company Health and Wellness Challenge. The goal of this challenge was to help create healthier habits. It is said it only takes 30 days to create a new habit, so appropriately our challenge was exactly 30 days long.

The goal of our January challenge was to help everyone start the New Year healthier and happier. Each individual who signed up for the health and wellness challenge was paired up with a partner. And having a partner in any type of training or challenge definitely helps with motivation and keeps each other accountable.

Each individual was then given access to their own personal account on www.fitnessjournal.org. We used this awesome resource to help track our daily habits.

First we would plan our entire fitness week out in advance, and then we recorded whatever workouts we executed each day. Having a plan is definitely better than just winging it each day in the weight room or on the treadmill. You can actually plan exactly what you want to work on, and what aspect of your fitness you’d like to improve in that particular workout.

Second we kept a detailed food journal of everything we ate and drank each day. This helped us get into the habit of actually reading the nutritional labels on the back of everything we took in. It’s amazing the quick and easy adjustments you can make to your diet, by actually paying attention to what’s going into your body.

Third we completed a wellness journal entry every day. The purpose of the wellness journal was to track how much sleep we were actually getting every night. And the wellness journal also asked us to think about everything that went good that day and list 3 things you were thankful for. By doing this, it actually helps you appreciate all the little things, and everything good in your life.

Lastly we were given a writing assignment every day, and we would type the entry into the writing journal. This writing assignment would range from reading a health article and giving feedback, to what our goals are for the next 30, 90, and 365 days. We learned a lot of interesting facts and will definitely be more empowered to make healthier choices in future.

We were then given points each day by how detailed and complete our fitness journals were.

Overall our JustBats.com health wellness challenge was a huge success. It really helped everyone take simple steps to learning more about themselves, and helped lay the foundation to creating healthier lifestyles.

Below are some action shots of JustBats.com employees during the fitness challenge making their way to healthier habits.

Comment and let us know what you are doing this winter season to challenge yourself and create better habits, we love hearing new ideas!

Team JustBats.com, Improving Year After Year!

I would first like to extend a big congratulations to everyone at JustBats.com for being nominated as one of the healthiest places to work in the Kansas City area. The criteria for this award is based on the actions taken by a company to improve the overall health of their workforce. Healthiest Employer, LLC is a privately held company that has developed a system of evaluating wellness initiatives within a work site. Their mission is as follows:

Healthiest Employers is dedicated to measuring wellness programming in today’s employers. Our mission is simple: to collect data, analyze trends, and offer insights to wellness-minded organizations.

As a company, Healthiest Employers strives to motivate other companies to evolve their health initiatives to the next level. Wellness initiatives are becoming more and more popular within business work sites for a number of reasons. People are starting to notice the correlation between health status and productivity level, absenteeism percentage, health insurance premiums, and the overall cultural climate of a population. As much as we differ from person to person we all have one thing in common: the need to maintain our physical health. Some people find that when they improve their physical health, it correlates with improving other aspects of their health as well.

If you were to flip through any of the success model books available in the JustBats.com library, you will likely find at least one chapter devoted to maintaining good physical health as a means to accomplishing your life goals. This is no coincidence, it is science. If you invest time and energy into fueling your body by consuming necessary nutrients and exercising regularly, your body will definitely return the favor.

JustBats.com has improved greatly from last year’s KC’s Healthiest Employers assessment, and that is something to be celebrated. But there is much room to improve.  With our technological resources and energetic population, we really do have the opportunity to be a model for other businesses who want to implement fun, creative, and innovative wellness initiatives.

The Healthiest Employers awards banquet is February 13 and we are all anxious to see where JustBats.com stands in this year’s results. There is no way to manufacture the cultural climate of a population, it just happens naturally, and the culture that has developed at JustBats.com is a direct reflection of who we are. So thank you to everyone at JustBats.com, and keep up the good work!
