Number 42

jrobinson42Every player knows the importance of “mental toughness” in baseball and softball. Jackie Robinson was a world class athlete, and had the physical tools to become a Hall of Fame second baseman, but what allowed him to excel on the diamond was his extraordinary mental toughness.

Robinson’s ability to withstand racial slurs, physical play on the field and social backlash from the game of baseball and the world is still an inspiration to today’s Big Leaguers.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder, Carl Crawford, had this to say regarding Major League Baseball’s upcoming celebration of Jackie Robinson Day. “When I see the number 42, it just makes me think about all the things Jackie had to go through. It just makes me want to represent myself the same way he was able to represent himself.”

The number 42 is officially retired by every team in Major League Baseball. In honor of Robinson’s debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, Major League Baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson Day every year on April 15th. Take a moment today, while the players are lined up for the National Anthem, to reflect on the symbolism of the 42 on the back of every jersey.

Jackie Robinson may be gone but his legacy will live on forever. He knew that breaking the MLB color barrier carried more significance than just his career statistics. That can be summed up in one of Jackie Robinson’s most famous quotes:

“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

“42: The Jackie Robinson Story” is currently playing in theatres everywhere, so check it out to get a closer look at Robinson’s remarkable story. Baseball Bat Duel: Easton S Series vs. Easton XL Series

eastonxlvssseriesWhen it comes to baseball bats, Easton is royalty. For more than 40 years, Easton has been an industry leader in developing innovative new technologies and outfitting ballplayers with high-performing bats. Today, we take a look at the 2013 Easton S Series and XL Series and compare their differences and why they might be the right bat for you.

Easton S Series:

The Easton S Series is a great bat for contact hitters. It has a balanced swing weight, so it’ll help hitters who have trouble generating their own power to increase their bat speed. There are four designs in the S Series: The S1, S2, S3 and S4.

The S1 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and barrel and available in BBCOR, Senior League, Youth and Jr. Big Barrel designs. The S2 is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel and available in BBCOR, Senior League and Youth designs. The S3 is a one-piece alloy and available in BBCOR, Senior League and Youth designs. The S4 is a one-piece alloy with a 2 ½” barrel diameter and available in BBCOR.

Easton XL Series:

The Easton XL Series is an ideal bat for a power hitter who can generate their own bat speed. It has a slight end load and an extended barrel which creates an incredibly large sweet spot. There are three designs in the XL Series: XL1, XL2 and XL3.

The XL1 is a two-piece bat with a composite barrel and handle and available in BBCOR, Senior League and Youth designs. The XL2 is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel and available in BBCOR, Senior League and Youth designs. The XL3 is a one-piece alloy and available in BBCOR, Senior League and Youth designs.

So the choice is yours. Two very high-performing lines from Easton that will take your game to new levels. You can find them all at JustBats.com where we have a 24/7 in-house customer service team who are happy to answer all your questions and give you advice on which Easton is best for you.

World Baseball Classic

baseballclassicMajor League Baseball’s Opening Day festivities are still 30 days away. However, baseball fanatics will get a chance to whet their appetite as the World Baseball Classic is set to begin on March 2nd and run through March 19th.  Teams representing 32 countries have been whittled down to a field of 16 that will compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and the title of World Champion.

The World Baseball Classic began in 2006 in response to baseball being removed from the Summer Olympics. The first two Classics were held three years apart (2006 & 2009), however the new format will have the tournament being played every four years. Qualifying rounds are held all over the world, but the previous two championship games were held in the United States. This year, the qualifying rounds will be held in Japan, Taiwan, Puerto Rico and the United States with the championship rounds being held in San Francisco.

Japan is the two-time defending World Baseball Classic Champion. The United States has never finished on the medal podium. Their best finish came in 2009 when they finished in 4th place. This year, Team USA is in Pool D and will start the Classic in Phoenix against Mexico, Italy and Canada. Let’s hope that Team USA will come out with bats blazing and bring the gold medal home to the states!
