JustBats Finds Their Inner Youth this Holiday Season

Every year around the Holiday Season, JustBats.com gets some employees together and we go SHOPPING! Not for ourselves, but for Toys for Tots charity. It’s a great yearly tradition that’s put on by a couple of our long time employees Dave and Clint. It’s personally my third year of being a part of this and I make sure I never miss it. It’s a ton of fun and goes to a great cause. If you would like more info on doing this in your own community, check out their website: http://www.toysfortots.org/

Our Second At Bat For the KC Business Journal’s Best Place to Work in KC Challenge

Howdy Partners,

Pro Athlete, Inc. would like to thank the Kansas City Business Journal for organizing a Best Places to Work in Kansas City competition.

A cowboy theme adorned this year’s Best Places To Work in Kansas City luncheon and it was downright impressive.  The Kansas City Business Journal lassoed 30 businesses, who work equally on employee and company growth, through a haystack-size pile of applicants to choose three winners.

The show is well-rehearsed, and the orchestration of it is very professional which adds to the fun.  There’s a meet and greet in front of the conference room, then at 11:30, we all file in to our assigned seats.

Slideshows from all the participants are scrolling on large screens near the stage.  The photos scrolling showed company personnel in heart-warming, personal, and funny scenarios.  There’s a professional master of ceremonies, pianist, and announcer which makes the whole experience refreshing.

There are three categories for company classification; small, medium, and larges.  As they go through each company in a category, the team members present are encouraged to hoot and holler, so it’s a tad frightening to hear people shrieking about.  Some of the teams wore the same clothes.

Lunch is served while we watch some promotional videos from the sponsors.  This year, we were served squash soup, barbecue chicken, and cheesecake for dessert.  The videos were funny and the food was excellent, then we moved on to announcing the winners.

As the winners were listed, previously unmentioned things about what makes that business so special were saved for a final company overview.  It’s truly amazing to hear all the things these companies do to help people in the community and what perks they offer their employees.  One company listed beer Friday’s and it was received with the most applause.   Go figure – the event was held on Friday.

Although Pro Athlete, Inc. did not win this year, we are already working on the requirements for 2012.  This is our third strike possibility so we take this competition very seriously.  See you next year.

Hitters, Sluggers, Homerun Champs, Oh My!

I had the privilege of tagging along with USSSA and some of the top manufacturers in the game to this years Majors Softball Slugfest.  It’s not everyday you get the chance to go behind the scenes and see the action.

This event is put on every year by USSSA at the Men’s World Tournament at ESPN World Wide Sports in Orlando, FL. It’s a great opportunity for manufacturers to get out there and showcase their products, as well as for people to jump in the cage and try out new bats.

A line of batting cage nets set the stage to give people the opportunity to try new bats and get a feel for different products. It was never a still moment as people lined up to take their turn.

Combat showed off their new Avarice which was a big hit. Softball greats Johnny McGraw and Scott Brown endured the heat to take turns feeding the pitching machine as players jumped in to take some cuts.

One cage over players and fans gathered around some of the biggest names in Softball today, Worth’s BJ Fulk and Greg Connell. As these two guys greeted people with smiles, they signed autographs and snapped pictures with everyone who came their way. What an opportunity for people to talk to not only the manufacturers but to talk to the players who swing these bats everyday.  Not to mention, getting advice from the Pro’s themselves….you can’t beat that!

Slugfest is a must! Next year go out and talk to the manufacturers, swing some bats, and meet some of the greatest players in the game today.

JustBats.com 2011 June Jam Tournament

One of the coolest things we do each year here at JustBats.com is hosting the annual JustBats June Jam youth baseball tournament in Kansas City. Youth teams travel from all over the area to showcase their talents using the bats they get from JustBats.
This year we decided to step our game up another level and create a one-of-a-kind experience for all the players at the tournament by filming the players in action, and even interviewing some of them between games. We weren’t sure if the kids would be too shy to get in front of the camera or not, but we quickly realized we had our hands full.

Within minutes of walking around with microphone in hand,  and my favorite cameraman Joe by my side, we were swarmed by players wanting to be on camera. We got more quality footage than we could’ve imagined, and to see how excited the kids were to be on camera was the best part of the whole tournament.
We finally got the video ready to roll out, and it looks awesome. Thanks to all the players who starred in the video, and remember, if you have videos or pictures of your own with you and your bats, send them in to us to put up on our site.
From everyone at JustBats.com, we hope you enjoy the 2011 JustBats June Jam video, and we hope to see you all on next year’s video.
